2008-09 NHL Projected Standings

It does not seem that long ago when Nicklas Lidstrom raised the Stanley Cup as the Detroit Red Wings were crowned champions of the 2007-08 campaign. After a season that brought us a Stanley Cup final featuring two of the most exciting teams in the league, 65 goals from Alex Ovechkin, and yes, the infamous own goal by Bryan McCabe, the 2008-09 season has a tough act to follow.

Following an offseason filled with a great deal of player movement, this upcoming season still has plenty of stories and questions to answer. Will Sidney Crosby recapture the Art Ross and Hart trophy? Can Carey Price lead the Canadiens to their twenty-fifth Stanley Cup? Can Steven Stamkos revitalize the Tampa Bay Lightning and catapult the team back into the playoffs? Will the Red Wings repeat with the addition of Marian Hossa? Will Bryan McCabe score on Tomas Vokoun? These are just some of the questions that are currently circling the hockey world, which should make for another exciting season in the National Hockey League.
The beginning of a new season is also a time when fans, television analysts, and columnists alike put forward their two cents on who will finish where in the league standings. With so much parity in the league it is always difficult to make predictions in the ‘new NHL’, but without further ado let’s take a look at what the standings might look like at the end of the season.
